Spring Ranche, NE | Row shutoffs require gps to be able to tell the monitor the location of where the planter has planted. IF you have many contours to plant it is worth the seed savings. If you plant square and straight fields, I would argue they are not needed but are sure handy for planting point rows on the last partial pass of the field, or get out of the cab and disconnect the rows you don't want to double plant.
I would suggest staying with jd electric clutches. You can find planters setup up with air clutches, and they work but seem like more problems as they age.
Central fill is a luxury, They save time and frustration of shuffling seed in boxes around when you are finishing up, besides ease of loading. You will need to make sure your 8400 has enough hydraulic capacity to run a ccs planter. With blowers, fans, down force, and drive all possibly being hydraulic it takes a bunch of scv's and flow. But not all planters are setup the same. You should look at your tractors capacity and determine what you can handle and decide on a planter based off of that.
I'm not sure you can get simpler and more reliable then a ground driven planter. Keep it simple stupid is pretty difficult anymore. | |
