South Central MN | The storms missed here, seem to be in a spot where the river valley affects them a bit. Got some rain that morning from a storm that dumped more further west.
I think the worst I've seen for jobs the covering disk ones did was where a guy tried to apply some in the fall on cornstalk ground, must have been a little packed because it was trails of poo and a thin line on each side with an occasional dirt lump tossed up. Other times have been in the spring when it got put on wet ground. Could never get those lumps to go away so they stayed around until sometime in the summer.
Just noticed the rye picture, looks better than a bunch of mine. It was spread with fertilizer and worked in with a disk that we modified several years ago, pretty dry but came good in late October/November with the rains. I think it got too cold too quick for it though and did more freeze damage, then a few warm/cold spells in the winter with no cover and no precip really took it out. I was surprised a few spots had about what I seeded though, will have to take note if it was normally wetter parts of the field that did better. Only did 25 lb. acre since I was covering a lot more acres than in the past and didn't want to make it too rough where corn was going in this spring.
