Phillips Co, Kansas | Looking for ideas on how folks in the north central Kansas area decide on shares for alfalfa. Sold equipment now renting out dryland creek bottom ground, bottoms are excellent for alfalfa 5 ton/acre in decent moisture years. Higher tops of hills expect will be row crop rotation.
Buddy of mine will farm it on third/two third agreement. My cost obligations are 1/3 Fertilizer-Herbicide-Insurance for 1/3 grain yield on row crops. We seem to be having difficulty navigating the terms for alfalfa though. Few neighbors & I lean towards same third/two thirds agreement as row crops for alfalfa....but my buddy has different perspective.
Looking to hear what successful alfalfa share crop arrangements every one else has experienced or currently using. | |
