 Chebanse, IL..... | Oh, yes, we apply NH3 and also apply lime. So, maybe that falls within your sights. But having been over the same ground for lots & lots of years, I see no correlation. None.
Lime apps are done per soil test (4 yr cycle). Also never exceed 2 T/A per app. So if more than 2 T is needed, then spread a 2nd yr. But, relative to our acres, we don't spread much lime. Have never spread more than 10% of any field acreage. Can't say it's been repeated areas either.
So, let me ask, are you suggesting that if we were to quit using NH3 & switch to all UAN, then our Ph levels would magically raise to our minimums?
I say we've been using NH3 for 60 yrs. However, before that it was either liquid UAN or aqua ammonia sidedressed that I did. Before that, it was dry N put through cultivator row units while cultivating. But now we're back to the early '50s & I wasn't out in the field that much yet. However, I do know we applied a fair amount of lime back then also. We're only 7 miles from a major quarry. |
