North Central Indiana | This isn’t a scientific post but rather an observational post. Last year we were very wet through the first half of the season. We applied NH3 and never showed nitrogen deficiency in tissue. Applied the same way I outlined in a post higher up in this thread I made. Two close neighbors had to come back and add a bunch of 28% in the middle of the summer as they were deficient. Local pioneer agronomist explicitly stated at the winter meeting that fields with NH3 saw far less leaching than fields with urea or 28 applications. I’d believe it based on who was applying again and who wasn’t last summer. Does that mean it’s always like that or exactly how things happened? No. But NH3 gets a bad reputation because of the symbols on the tank and the gas vapor when you lift out of the ground. Apples to apples we haven’t seen any downside to NH3 and there is a lot of research that shows if it’s applied responsibly it’s a great product. We’ll use it as long as we can | |
