Several years ago ISU did a nh3 study. After application there was a temporary sterilization effect in the band. However, after a while there was an explosion of life in the band and eventually a lot more microbiology present in the old band than in untreated soil.

Also where they made runways they used a ****load until it was hard as a rock. We don't see that where we use 1/10th of a ton per acre, every other year. I guarantee a no-till plus nh3 system will grow a lot more earthworms than a full tillage system.

That's because when the anhydrous is injected, it kills all of the microbes in the band. The reason they come back later, is that is where the food is.
