Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | The screen flashing CAL is very normal. It means that it cannot proceed until you enter values with the keypad. The older 440's need constant power (even when they appear to be OFF) to maintain their memory. The newer 440's with the letters NVM (non-volatile memory) will retain their settings.
You will need to enter the width in inches for each boom, the speed cal, the meter cal and a valve cal (use 2123) and a Rate 1 and Rate 2. Once you have entered "enough" information, the word CAL will disappear and you can then try using the 440.
The procedure for entering data is: push the desired key such as Boom 1, then push the ENTER key, you should see the letter "E". Then enter the width such as 1, 2, 0 (if your boom is 120" or 10'), then push the ENTER key again. At that point you have entered 120" for Boom 1.
Repeat the process for the other keys. I suggest trying 700 for a speed cal and 700 for a meter cal just to get going. These values can be fine tuned later once you get it going.
I would then start driving without spraying. Push the speed button, the display should show a reasonable speed in MPH. If you see speed but it is incorrect you can change the speed cal number until the speed appears to be correct. The meter cal is used to convert the pulses from the flow meter into familiar units such as gallons. The meter cal is often written on a tag on the flow meter. The total volume shown should agree with what you believe the volume to be.
