| I am glad some of you have a perfect life in a perfect world.
I have been to where the calves should of been weaned but were not. My old brush country cows manage to get the big one weaned and have a new one fine, about 99% of the time. I say not what I wanted but things happen. Now I sure try to not let it happen that way. But would not hesitate to put them back together after being weaned for months. But with the price of calves keep a real close eye on them. And if you think the yearling is trying to suck get it out quick.
The only case of adult bovine sucking another I have seen, was in a dozen cows and a bull turned lose on 500 acres of the wild brush stuff backing into 2000 acres of BLM brush and left completely untended for 4 or 5 years. After 7 years I had 10 strays, on an adjoining 600 that runs less than 20 yearlings. I forget how many unbranded but some with different iron that came thru the BLM to get in with mine.
The guy told me his cattle had been sold or died, but 2 had the brand his wore. The brand inspector got to figure it out. | |
