We had a vertical beater machine with a slop gate. When you open the gate there is no way to regulate the flow. All the semi dry, fluffy compost just falls out. So our control was really poor...spreading width was @ 10'. We had a guy spread some with a vertical beater machine with a guilltine gate. He got along decent with a 30' spread.
