Subject: RE: loading spreader-skid steer or mini paylaoder

Tomball,Texas

I use a 97 kubota for loading lime,I made the bucket bigger and it will get about a yard at a time. Also have a case 465 with a 1 yard bucket I load with,I like the skid steers because they’re small enough to pull them behind  the spreader truck, been using skid steers for 30 years around the feedmill handling pallets of feed and at the sawmill handling logs and bundles of lumber.
I bought a compact wheel loader about a month ago, a Kubota 640.Its weighs about the same as the 97 skid steer and I can haul it around on a bumper pull trailer.
I’ve used it more with pallet forks than the bucket so far, the hands around the mill are getting used to it moving pallets of feed, skid steer has better visibility with the forks and the articulation takes getting used to,they aren’t
It has 1 yard bucket and I’ve only loaded 4 loads of lime with it. With the same size bucket I’m definitely faster with the skid steer,I think if I get a 1-1/2 yard bucket I’ll be either a little faster or just as fast.It takes about 6 scoops to load with the skid steer and if I could do it in 4 with the wheel, loader it would be about the same amount of time.I have a 2 yard light material bucket I load shavings with and I have loaded litter with it but it won’t hold up to loading lime.
If you’re looking at 324 Deere I think it’s a little bigger than the 640 Kubota
