| Calved out a big group of heifers this February. Plan was always to keep the top X and sell the ones that don’t make the cut. (Calving Trouble, Poorer Condition, Not Ideal Udders)
I’m about ready to do the sort and sell them, but their calves are looking good and a big part of me is wanting to keep them at least until they wean a calf. For the price that I think pairs would sell in my area (especially more on the cull side) I think I’d be better off turning out to grass, giving them a chance to breed back and then weaning in the fall, and make the decision to sell the cows or not then.
Not sure what the best move is? What would you do given current market conditions? I’ve got the grass. | |
