Sounds like bodark, (osage orange) trees. A lot of them in older fences around here, or use to be. I had tried making bow's out of them. But, they tend to crack when drying. I talked to some bow makers, who said to throw them in a pond for, seems like they said a year or two. And that would stop the cracking. So am curious as to what replies you get.
