Subject: RE: Outdoor Pigs

west central Iowa
I enjoyed the three years I farrowed on pasture, but 8 cent hogs and prrs ended it l. They were fairly dry years and I have plenty of well drained hilltops. I would probably still be doing it if there was market. No high priced pig starter and it was fun to see the pigs with just hind legs hanging out of the self feeder lid. Labor was very minimal as all I did was keep straw in the huts and feed in the feeder. Always managed to wean around 8/litter and they stayed right in the pasture to get finished, inexpensive manure hauling. I even let the sows hog down corn a couple times and they stayed in perfect condition.
