The carrots are placed standing up. That is the job of the walkers to be sure they are standing with the green tops up. They are irrigated by either sprinkler or gravity. Sprinklers have the advantage of washing powdery mildew off. The male rows are destroyed after pollination and the females are swathed and threshed with a combine.
