Looks like I missed your colourful language! But no, we’re not exactly “deep throating” Putin’s gas supply. Our reliance has dropped from 42% to 11%, and if all goes well, it should hit 0% by 2027, though that might be optimistic.
As for the reason: there simply wasn’t a viable alternative at the time. And when you’re in a conflict, it doesn’t make sense to harm yourself just to prove a point.
2024 EU gas consumption FROM Russia was actually up 18% in 2024. To date, EU has not “officially” published HOW / roadmap they will get to 0 by 2027.
