scmn | Engine problems are with the 5.3 and 6.2, hace not heard any issues eith the 6.6L options in the HDs. I know oil consumption is an issue with one brand.
Additionally, it is not really a teansmission issue, rather a valve body issue. Valve body fails, replace valve body, tge remainder if the transmission is fine. Neither of the competitors are issue free so it becomes trading one set of issues for another so I will stick to what I know.
Edit to add:
Going back to 90s or early 2000s models has its own set of challenges with aging parts, rusty bodies, on worn out vehicles
