North Central US | We just went through this yesterday. 4 hour old calf went just over a mile before bedding down by some trees and being found. Through multiple barb wire fences, squeezed between a gate posts, then layed down and slept/rolled under a few panels.
They will go far.
No apparent reason either, as the barn cameras showed. Just took off running after he rolled under the corral panels and didn't stop.
