Mine are pretty creaky. Nature of them
If you spin them with your hand or foot they should spin a bit and stop.
They don't just freewheel very long.
After running them a bit, put your hand on them.
They should just feel warm and not hot.
I grease mine once a season.

Edit- Sometimes a couple won't even take grease.
Like i said i believe you just greasing the seal, and not the bearing.
If you have an old one laying there, crack the flange off and verify if i'm right.
