Eastern NE KS | A little out-there thinking helps me with the year code.
It happened that the year 2000 livestock code was K. Back in a earlier life, I got was involved in old accounting systems that were subject to the "Y2K" (2000) problem. So both K's are linked to the year 2000.
That doesn't help much unless you recall the livestock code year is 22 year cycle. This means 2022 is also "K". And by counting forward, 2025 is "N".
This is a long way around the bush and you also have to remember the excluded letters I, O, Q, and V. The only trick I have with these 4 is can they be confused with a number or another letter.
Anyway, I had some benchmark livestock letter code since 1969 that helped me figure the one for the current year. | |
