s.e. Pa | We plant soybeans with a great plains 1006 drill. It has a 4 speed gearbox and then slid adjustment for the fluted rolls. I have always used the biggest opening and slowest speed to get the population, thinking that having the rolls more open would split less seeds. Like many drills, the spacing is not good. I got to wondering if spacing would be improved if i used a higher gear, and smaller opening on the rolls? My thought was that when the rolls are spinning real slow and wider spaced, several soybeans are sitting in each flute and get dumped together. I thought a narrower opening would fit less soybeans and maybe be more accurate? | |
