39.48, -82.98 | Update: Apparently, the lead author of the recent paper has a history of making claims that other scientists find wanting. Here is a decent YouTube on it: https://youtu.be/HYjYvKoQVeM?si=ezXGYLjaIP5axbgX
Probably the most damning evidence against Madhusudhan is his own paper, where almost all its references point back to his other papers. You see this where someone has wandered off into the weeds, or is promoting a narrative, or both. Recently, we saw this in the "hidden city under a pyramid" story.
Well, that's disappointing...but facts are facts. K2-18b may harbor life, but Madhusudhan has fallen short of convincing other scientists, who are mostly annoyed with his headline-grabbing press releases.
Meanwhile, note the scientific method in action. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, and that has not been met.
On the other hand, I stand by what I said in the original post: This is most likely how we will detect alien life. It won't be a crashed saucer and probably won't be an intelligent signal from space. It will most likely be the detection of biomarkers in the atmosphere of an exoplanet as it passes between its star and us. | |
