Southern MN | I am a believer. I would say residue blows less with them than a lawn mower blade style chopping head because the stalks are left standing and not mowed off. Residue is crimped rather than mowed into small pieces. We are conventional tillage but have never had our field cultivator plug with trash after high yielding corn, the reason we were forced to go to a chopping style head in the first place. As far as longevity I can’t complain. Our current head must be well over 1000 acres per row at the end of last year. Last year not a good crop but record yields and plant size 2 previous years with good results. We did replace them over the winter. Biggest thing for me is that it fixes the problems with the Jd head. Can harvest in a light rain, snow, or through the morning frost melting off like we could way back when before JD introduced the opposing knife roll. On a year with difficult weather to me they will pay for themselves.
Again do not no till so can’t speak to that part of it
They are very expensive
Do not get a post or foreign object into them as they are more likely than not to take the gearbox out.
