SW OH | I only see 1 set of tracks in your picture, but maybe there's a switch to the second track out of view. Your story reminds me of a commercial from the early 70s. It was of a Jeep, no top, 4 high school guys wearing cut offs and t-shirts sitting at a crossing. A nice sunny day just out cruising and enjoying the day. A train was going across and the lights were flashing. As soon as the end of the train passed, the Jeep crossed the tracks. It was hit by a train on the second set of tracks by a high speed train going the other direction. It was a PSA reminding drivers not to cross if the lights are flashing and it pointed out the sign said 4 tracks. It was supposedly based on a true event where the 4 in the Jeep all died as a result of not waiting and looking for more than 1 train.
