Subject: Tell me about calmer stalk rolls

SC IA
Starting to think we really need to start doing something about the amount of corn stalk residue we’re dealing with being mostly no-till. I’ve been hesitant in the past to go this route as I feared stalk residue would blow away like you see from traditional chopping heads. I don’t really have the man power right now nor do I really want to add a tillage pass so would like to stick to trying to take care of the problem during a current pass in the field. Another concern I’ve seen brought up is the longevity of the rolls. I’m assuming the flutes on these are not replaceable and when they’re wore out you will have do dump several more thousand dollars into your head to replace them? Guessing cost is outrageously high on them also? What other thoughts?
