| Any tips on using a JD 1590 drill to plant milo on 15 inch rows.
I am thinking the biggest problem will be getting the population down low enough. Would like to plant 80,000 sds/ac which equals about 5 pounds of seed/ac.
We have been growing milo for several years. When we first started we planted it on 38" rows then went to 19" rows and just doubled back with the planter. When the sugar cane aphids came around we went back to 38" rows to make it easier to spray but our yields seemed better on narrow rows. I am considering going back to narrow rows as I think it would tiller out better, better weed control, and reduce harvest losses. I would like to use the drill because doubling back is so time consuming and it is also double the wear on the planter. Ideally would like to have a narrow row planter, but trying to use what I have available for now.
Should I even consider using the drill or just stick with the 38" vacuum planter? | |
