| We bought some pasture late last year from a neighbor. Her tenants were running pairs on it. They were given an option to buy but passed. I don’t think he was very happy He was losing his lease on it(expired many years ago). And then he was even less happy to hear He was losing it to lamb producers. The older lady we bought the ground from said she had to get the sheriff involved to get him off the ground. He was on there from May through November. 6 acre per pair. We had 6 inches of rain last year no joke and no winter before hand.
Being a lamb producer, I obviously have to really pay attention to my grass. I need to do something with this or the cheat grass will take over. This pasture is grazed flush in places and blowing dirt in others. This particular corner is some of the “okay” areas of it. Speaking with Our agronomists, he told us he’s never worked with pasture ground but to pray it rains and then this fall try going in and mow it. I know I was taught to NEVER mow pasture ever. People definitely don’t fertilize grass here. But I am considering it. Somehow iv ran a custom sprayer for years and never once fertilized anyones grass. Might be time for a change. Would aerating the ground help at all? I know that’s more of a Midwest practice. I don’t feel I should even attempt to Graze this till next year would I?
