What amazes this Aussy is the range of machinery! From the 24 row planter to the Amish man with his two horses. But I guess there is similar here in the Victorian Wimmera grain area. There are still small operators, single operator units, as against the 600hp multi-track units that are run by the corporate farms. When I started in 1960 grain was carted in 3 and 5 ton trucks, now many farms run 'B double' semitrailer rigs! Load 45 tonne. Header 'fronts' as we call them are now out to 60 ft! |
