Southeast WI | Everybody has different risk aversion strategies. Some folks on here are the cheapest people on earth and are proud of that and a 20 year vehicle works fine. Obviously they are Homer's and don't travel with vehicle. Others like new vehicles every few years. Me? We buy new, use them for work mostly and hold for years. Somewhere around 150-170K they become too unreliable for me which is 8-10 years and trade for a new one so dollar loss leaving the lot doesn't matter to me.
There's no right answer. You have to figure out what you're willing to put up with. I decided years ago we would always have one vehicle we could hop in and go cross country with no problems. A vehicle is not an asset unless you make money with it so it's hard to put a value on a family hauler for you. You have to do that. | |
