NS Canada | Yet another loss from the long lost manufacturing industry in north amercia. Creosote is derived from coal tar distillation, where coking ovens are used to convert coal into coke, which is used as a fuel and as a reducing agent in smelting iron ore in a blast furnace.
So with hardly any steel industry left in our either of our countries - we don't readily get the by-products either..
Here in Nova Scotia we had a lot of coal and in turn, steel production - The sydney tar ponds (coking ovens) were seen as one of the most toxic sites in all of Canada, but they turned out a lot of creosote.. And it was tiny compared to some of the US steel production sites.
