I guess you will have to tell me what demographic you are looking at.
Urban and rural seems a good one as it matches gun ownership difference as well
Same demographic with more guns has more homicides
OK, in Switzerland, gun ownership is mandatory, yet it is one of the safer places to be.
Mexico has stricter gun laws than Canada, but yet it is much more dangerous than Switzerland, and even the USA.
There are two BIG glaring things that from where I sit, have a giant impact on things like murder rates.
1) Drugs - from the people who make the drugs, transport them, sell them, and use them.
2) Gangs - from gang rivalries, turf wars, and lots of overlap with the drug thing as many gangs also deal in drugs.
A third important issue, which I think dovetails the other 2 would be corruption in public authorities.
Out here, in rural areas, you are extremely safe, as long as you stay away from the meth labs. I have heard that rural Canada is seeing a surge in drug use in rural areas. Now, I will admit I do not know how accurate those reports are as I don't frequent Canadian news agencies much, but it would explain a surge in violent acts in rural areas.
Ditto Mexico. Mexico has some of the most stringent gun laws regarding the average citizen in North and Central America. However, it is not a very safe place, but what do they have lots of? Drugs, gangs, and corruption.
Canada, last I knew was more a bastion of politeness and decency than many places in the US and most places in Mexico. I think that has more to do with it than many think.
Access to the tools does not 'cause' violence, but it can cause those who are violent to do more damage, but it is still the hoodlum that is the root cause.
I read a lot of headlines of people setting fires to Teslas and Tesla dealerships in the USA, but in Canada that doesn't seem to be a problem. I do not think that it is because Canada has tighter restrictions to matches and gas. It is because the demographic of people who do that, are here. |
