North of London | It was probably about 65-70 years ago when I was 12 or 13 and drove the JD "B" pulling the horse planter that had been adapted to tractor pull
Father sat on planter and operated everything except the tractor pulling it down the field.
I remember the markers that were controlled by a rope between them and when you turned they would automatically switch sides as long as I made a correct turn.
If things did not work correctly father could reach out and switch them usually without me stopping
No GPS then so all up to me to keep rows straight and yes 40 inch rows.
Fertilizer cans were small so required regular stops to refill
