Malta, Illinois | Whether some of us old folks like it or not churches are having to adapt and change in order to keep the pews full. I am still quite content with an old school service with traditional sermons, scripture, and hymns. Unfortunately the newer generation has become accustomed to having to be constantly entertained no matter where they are at. They find traditional church services boring. So, in order to appeal to the younger crowd and future generations, churches are now having to "make church fun". I don't really like it but if that is what is necessary to keep a thriving congregation and have younger people have any kind of relationship with God at all, I think that is what should be done. I don't think church needs to be fun or entertaining but that is not how the younger generations think. Church used to be a quiet time of reflection and prayer in which a message from the scriptures was delivered and there were hymns which were related to the message or sermon for the day. | |
