I somewhat agree. Our last pastor, who was a good man, loved his hymns and a lot of them. Me being 56 years old was even becoming frustrated with them because it was a big part of the service and mentioned it nicely to him that I thought being more upbeat would be refreshing. His response was that the check writers don’t like a guitar in the church and I pointed out the check writers were dying, maybe being a little brutal as he got kinda quiet. He retired and we fortunately found an excellent replacement who has drawn many young people back to attending church and being involved. We haven’t caved to the liberal thoughts of modern times, in fact we left the ELCA a few years ago for obvious reasons and are adapting and growing with a more diverse church service.

Our Church was in "the rut" too. We are LCMS and it took 2 years to find and call a pastor with a vision. He had built up two other churches, and we called him. We are still have our core beliefs, but are 50% contemporary music. We have built up activities at Church, and our attendance is usually over 160 now. (it had died to the 40's)
We have a Sunday School is back, and we are doing baptism's again. Its nice to see so many new faces at Church.
Church Leadership should be told we need a church our children and grand children will gladly go to, not a dying church for a few "White Haired Folks"
Shame on Pastors who allow a church to die.
