North of London | Tradition says they were written by Mathew, Peter, John and Paul etc but they are all anonymous and there is no way to know who actually wrote them.
Scholars will point out many inconsistencies in sections indicating different writers wrote different parts of what is by tradition attributed to one named author.
They determine this by style etc that is not consistent of one author.
And who knows since there is no original texts to look back on just hand written copies of hand written copies with who knows how many changes from copy to copy.
You can just believe that a name is the author but there is no evidence to prove that belief is true or that the name selected is the same person/author that is written about in the story.
