My parents worked along with farming, if dad didn’t work he didn’t get paid, no pto, it was difficult for mom to get off outside of her one weekday off a week. They went to a lot of visitations. I’m not a people person so I often go funeral. Very close friends dad passed, I would’ve liked to go to funeral but knew the next day it was in a very small church. Many factors play in.
For those that work off the farm vacation is a precious resource. Typically funerals are relatively short notice so harder to get coverage to be gone. Plus sucks to burn 8-12 hours for a 2 hours to attend a funeral. Evening visitation is a common courtesy to those that want to pay their last respects. Plus if a large number of folks looking to pay their last respects it can spread out the crowd. |
