Central Alberta | There are inherent dilemmas in discovering extraterrestrial life. If the planet has a stable, breathable oxygen atmosphere, it was probably created by a biosphere with photosynthesizing plants and an ocean of cyanobacteria, similar to our own.
If we were to visit there, our presence would probably destroy it. Our bodies contain billions of microbes, both beneficial and harmful to us, but chances are that they would spread into such an ecosystem, probably eventually disrupting it severely or even destroying it. We've already done considerable damage to this planet, so destroying another one won't rectify the situation. | |
