If you’re going for the dead person we do both.
Going because it’s someone close to friends, like a friends grandpa you didn’t know well or at all, visitation.
People we weren’t that close to but feel the need to go, whatever is convenient.
Seeing more and more visitation only or graveside only funerals. I’m guessing that’s because the cost is insane. It’s one of the biggest rackets 2nd to the insurance industry. When my wife’s grandma died it was eye opening. She had prepaid for a funeral, but still cost $7500 some how for normal funeral, so don’t prepay one. I’d prefer a pine box in my cow pasture behind the house.

HERE the prepaid covers just about everything, except donation to pastor/funeral luncheon, opening/closing of grave and flowers on casket (if done). |
