N FLA | Maybe this is the year.
Calving going pretty good. Cows still hungry but getting better. Lost 4 cows this winter. I called it malnutrition but that doesn't seem exactly right.
Lost 35 acres here sold for $10k per acre. New owner said he wants to put his own animals on it. Trying to transition to less is more.
Getting a fence up at my 5 acre homesite. Work this plan of improving my own pee wee calves after weaning. Also sort all my culls in the next couple weeks and put them in a feedpen at home. I have 18 calves from last year that I should have added value if not moved to a better seasonal. Add some income here and there. I think if I only sell cattle and don't buy any I should have a pretty good run.
My colleague said his load lots of calves on video auction, that his heifers were 40 cents under steers. Which makes me think generally speaking, not buying heifers for replacements. Talked to 2 people looking to buy cows. Not exactly new producers. But I'd call it new cow calf enterprise. I just shook my head at their plans. Which were more like the absence of a plan.
Feed grinding is going well. But that's another post another day
