Subject: Private pesticide license testing is a joke

Scranton
Went to get some chemicals and was told my PP license was expired. I call down to state and they said you can still do it on line for a limited time yet.

So I find the test, didn't look at a test book or anything, and proceed. Got maybe ten questions in and found one that had three answers I felt were all suitable answers, so I opened the google tab and started typing in the question. Google came up with the exact phrasing before I got halfway through, so you know its had a lot of others type in that exact question. I tried it for a few other questions and got 48/50. I had 4 hours so there was no reason a person couldn't have ran every question through google.

I would have passed no matter as it was all common sense and the same question they've been asking for 40 years. (there were two or three about pressure having to be 4 times to double rate, etc). Point being, if this is their testing, why even bother. Just take my fee and move on.

Now I have no problem with testing. I believe it is a good idea in general. Heck, they should require it for ALL chemicals, including anyone spraying their yard. (if Roundup is a carcinogen as they claim, they sure better have some restrictions).

But make it meaningful. They implemented online testing during the covid fiasco, and here we are 5 years later and its still there. Should be a closed book test, or if they are going to have something online, make it like the Dicamba testing we had to do a few years ago. I actually learned some useful stuff there.

As an aside, their whole online presence was nothing short of antiquated. The hardest part of the whole exam was finding it on their site. Almost had to call in the son to help me. Do better IDALS. Charge us more than the $5/year and put in a useful system or just scrap the whole thing.
