Central IL
I was always told feed efficiency goes down as slaughter weights go up. Does the USDA add that into their calculations? No idea. Just as important, do they need to. I have always suspected the feed usage number was a derived number similar to CEC scores in a soil test report. My wag is they calculate harvested bushels minus exports and industrial usage, minus ethanol usage, minus bushels stored on farms and commercial storage, plus imports and the remainder is -wala-feed usage.
