Hilltop Husker - 4/16/2025 00:20 Look at the guys growing 500-600 bushel contest corn. Using dozens and dozens of products. Not everything is snake oil but you need to understand how and if something can possibly help. For the people that will be along and say that it's just a test or and. They can't do it broad acre. David hula recently stated he has had an entire pivot go 425.

How much money did he lose per acre on that one pivot to make 425 though? I've learned to never say never, but I do find it nearly impossible to grow 425 bu corn and even come close to break even on the best ground. I'm of the mindset that in typical/average price years, you plant solid seed proven to work on your ground, throw the fertilizer to it within your budget for expected yield, solid chem program and fungicide if you're prone to needing that historically.. and if the weather cooperates you come out alright 9 out of 10 times well enough to absorb the 1 out of 10 year. To me, swinging for the fences every time increases risk by a large factor in these areas where too much moisture early can be a factor more often than not. If you're in an area where that's seldom the case, and you can add at will with irrigation then that's a different situation that I have no experience with.
