NW Ohio, near Findlay | At first I thought it was a backflow preventer valve, but I think others are correct, it is a pressure relief valve. Don't understand why it appears to be buried, did it have a way to get rid of the water?
Now I have a question, standard submersible pump at my house, and I have no pressure relief valve. If something happened with my pressure switch, I would be in deep trouble. I don't know why my plumber never suggested it, nor have I ever seen one installed anywhere in all my excavating business. Do other AgTalkers have them in their water systems?
EDIT" I reread your post, was in a well pit, we don't have many of them anymore in our area. With the pitless adapters available now, we only use small water pits, like cities use with brass shutoffs with quarter turn valves.
