| We've had lava rock since the mid '90s, never seen nn issue with heat damage to the plants. We live in an area that's pretty wide open, this area use to be referred to as the "Grand Prairie ". Always have a breeze, people from town always comment how windy it is out here and our Temps are usually 4° warmer in the summers & 4° colder in the winter than in town.
We originally had mulch for about 5 years before removing it & going to the lava rock. With the mulch we were always having to add more every spring as it would deteriorate and heavy rains would wash it into the yard.. Have never had to add any rock & it stays put. Also need to be careful and be sure you buy a treated mulch to avoid any possibility of unwanted insects. Even then I'm not certain how long the treatment lasts. We did have a small termite issue when we had the mulch though I can't e positive the mulch is to blame. Haven't had any since going to the rock but we do have the house inspected yearly by Terminix. | |
