1) How do you piss off a lab enough to bite?  My kids use(d) our lab as a pillow he’d give a you got to be kidding look if he was really over it enough he’d go in another room.   When our daughter was a newborn sitting in her car seat crying one day he walked up and gave her a huge lick it was his way of saying it will be alright. 
2) If your wife values the dog more than you it might time to part with both.
