Where you will really lose a lot of ammoniated zinc is in high pH soil. Chelated is plant available for much longer in a pH above 7.5. Ammoniated zinc will bind to carbonates pretty fast.
As for “building your soil”. At 11lbs per gallon you are applying roughly 2.2lbs per acre at a 1 gallon rate. Or about 1ppm. That’s really not a great way to build soil levels, especially because it’s banded, it’s also expensive compared to zinc sulfate.
Another problem you might face, because you are banding in the root zone, the concentration of zinc in that area is much higher than 1ppm, more like 10-15ppm in the root zone. This could cause you some issues with phosphate uptake if your P levels aren’t high enough. Alternatively, if your zinc levels are nonexistent already and you have P levels of 60ppm or higher, this might be advantageous.
That was a complicated answer to a simple question.
