Subject: LTC visitor fatigue syndrome

Hooker Twp,Ne
Has anyone else experienced this and how to cope or get rid of it? My wife going on 2 years has been in a LTC facility. She is almost 67 and I’m 71. She had a major stroke and has no right side function, can’t talk and in diapers. They have to move her with a hoyer lift. Anyway I go visit her every morning at breakfast time and then again at supper time unless one of the kids go at that time. Main reason I go at that time is to make sure she gets some nourishment. I’ve seen to many residents get a plate shoved in front of them and don’t have full ability to help themselves. Food ends up cold or on floor as they aren’t given a lip plate. This amounts to about an hour each time. I also take her to her room so she gets settled in and has call button placed on her. Seen lack of that happen and I’m very adamant about call button as she can’t talk. Well when I get home I’m totally drawn out. Sleep for hour and sometimes I get over it and others times I don’t. Now it’s planting time and that nap can’t always happen. I’ve talked to couple others who visit their spouse and they have same experience. Has anyone found a way to cope with this fatigue syndrome? Doc just acts like I don’t know what I’m talking about. Thanks in advance
