What "free ride?"

What you're really wanting is protectionism for U.S. goods. What happens if the rest of the world just says pffffttttt?

We might wind up somewhat marginally better off, but how? How would we be better off than with, say, the Trans Pacific Partnership, or the Trans Atlantic EU treaty that was being negotiated? These were already reducing Tariff's between the players to near zero. How is this better than measured negotiations that don't antagonize trading partners?
