GS2 - 4/15/2025 04:32 This is on what? 30 year old software? That puts it in the XP/95/98 era, you want to trust it with credit card data? How many times have you heard of a site or company having a breach or leak? Even hospitals can't escape them. All it would do is open the site up to a fast bankruptcy and pile of lawsuits. Credit cards usually have a minimum charge, thus the reason you see at small businesses "no credit cards below $x or a $x/x% fee applies". Use the two Caterpillar forums as an example: the paid one is dead compared to the free one and the hundreds of Facebook groups that also exist. All charging a fee would do is A. Encourage a new site or B push new people away to Facebook or other sites. Many credit cards also offer virtual burner cards as well.

Wow, I'm in disbelief that someone hiding behind anonymity would come up with a bunch of "reasons" why it couldn't/wouldn't work.   Shocked I tell you.

Yes this software is old.  It has been stated more than once by DKO that new software is inevitable.   That would be a good time to make changes.

Are you scared of using credit cards everywhere?    It would be hard going through life scared that every time you used a credit card your info was going to be stolen.

If $1 isn't enough, make it bigger.       Problem solved.   $10, heck even $50 as a one time registration fee would be CHEAP to clean up the garbage out of this site.  Leave the site open for unregistered users to read, but not post.

As long as this site stays free of advertising and free of being owned by any corporation, it will still be the king of ag discussion sites.    Many disgruntled people have tried to start a new site to replace Agtalk, none of them have.

Simple solution to burner credit cards, reject any credit card that doesn't provide the owner of the account.      FYI/FWIW, most (maybe all?) car rental companies do not accept virtual credit cards, the credit card and drivers license have to match the name on the rental agreement.
