I personally hate estate taxes and actually any tax on something I have paid for with dollars that have already been taxed, like property taxes. I would be happy to get rid of stepped up basis to keep estate tax thresholds as high as possible. I can rationalize getting an asset and not paying tax on it if you haven’t sold it. Getting an asset tax free and then keeping all the capital gains from the sale of that asset tax free is not something I can rationalize. | |
