A lot more involved in cattle. The older farmers don't want to get in to cattle, and a lot of younger ones don't want to put in the time. Then you need to build fence and seed ground if it has been row crop. Then you have to buy high priced cows to get started. My apologies if that is not what you were asking? With seven dollar corn, it was easy to add more acres and expand.

Not what I was thinking.

$7 corn doesn't last long. This too shall pass.

I want to sell down the herd at the $7 corn price relative to cattle.

$5000 first calf pairs seems like $7 corn. Or is the top not in yet?

Selling $2000 steers off those pairs next winter is 40% of the price.

We load steers and heifers tomorrow for Tuesday sale. How many heifers do I keep? I'm thinking for every heifer I keep I need to make sure I sell that many old cows in the next month or so.

My thoughts. In relation to things we hit $7 corn cattle wise, mire like $7.50 corn now. If you're wanting to sell out do it now. Maybe the market goes up more and you can get $8 corn equivalent.... so what?
